Mothering Fully Present
Mothering Fully Present

God isn’t looking for perfect moms with perfect methods and ideas to raise His kids. Just moms who are humble and pliable and rest-FULL enough from the inside-out to hear His voice and partner with Him.

My girl. I badly want to freeze the moments. To slow time down. Instead, I will live fully present in this moment of wide windowsills, good books, snowy mornings and sweet, beautiful girlhood!

Fully present is one of the most difficult things for a mom to do sometimes. But one of the best things. It means embracing the good AND the hard. Being fully invested in walking with my kids as they grow through more than the ideal quiet windowsill picturesque moments. Fully invested yet holding them with an open hand and allowing them space to grow and discover on their own. Knowing when to step in. And when to back out. And forgiving myself when I get it wrong. So much of motherhood is about my own humility and being willing to grow WITH my kids. Modeling teachableness for them. Partnering with Holy Spirit, because heaven knows my child and the big picture of their lives better than I do and I need the above perspective so the swirl down here doesn’t suck me in.

Live fully present, mamas! Not just in the picturesque moments. But even more fully so when the going is bumpy and you have questions. God isn’t looking for perfect moms with perfect methods and ideas to raise His kids. Just moms who are humble and pliable and rest-FULL enough from the inside-out to hear His voice and partner with Him. Moms with courage and confidence in Him instead of in formulas. Heaven will download ideas to us when we recognize our need and are still enough to ask and receive His solutions. And at the end of the day, we still need to trust the One who held our beautiful (and sometimes not so beautiful) kiddos before we did. He knows them better than we do. We rest ourselves in the fact that He loves them infinitely more than we do and will always be with them in ways we can’t. It doesn’t take away the ache of wishing we could freeze time, but it does take away the panic! And Lord knows panic doesn’t produce good fruit in the long run. So today, we opt for trusting Him and resting in His goodness for our kiddos. Fully present. Fully trusting. Fully investing what He gives us and depositing that in them in this moment we have today.

P.S. Written by the mom who just sent her two oldest out to either, option #1) settle a discrepancy they were having on their own OR option #2, each pay me a quarter to have me settle it for them. They looked at each other and walked out of the room. Both are singing now and back to doing their own separate thing! That didn’t take them long to figure out! Not enough room in their budget to pay mom this time around! 😂

Smoker Family

by Vera Smoker

Hi there! I am Vera, blessed wife of one and mom to three wonderful little people who make my world go round. I am an unashamed lover of Jesus, passionate about authentic relationships rooted within the identity that comes first from my relationship with Him. I’m a lover of good books, fat journals, sunsets and sunrises, long quiet country walks, and time with my family around campfires or on our front porch. Growth and mentorship are high on the list of values for me and I always thrill when I get to celebrate the wonderful journey of growth and discovery with others. The Hubs and I both love hosting so come relax with us sometime and we will chat the time away and connect over a good cup of coffee or chai!

The Greatness of the Present

The Greatness of the Present

Gah. It’s good. The end of the week is almost here and I’m tired. But it’s a good kind of tired. I’ve been challenging myself to ‘stay present’ more lately and while it definitely takes more emotional energy, it’s been so rich. It’s easy to stay glibly present in good moments, but the hard ones? Those are the ones I have tended to run from.
