Where’s Daddy?

Just about every morning after my oldest wakes up, we say our good mornings and give hugs and kisses and he will ask, “Where’s Daddy?” And every morning I respond that Daddy is at work. Over the last week, each morning as we have gone through this repetitive dialogue, I felt the nudging of the Holy Spirit each time he would ask where his father was. I asked God what it was that He was wanting me to see in this. I felt like God was saying that in parenting, we face so many challenges, tests, and trials that leave us saying, “God, where are you??? Where’s Daddy?” We spend so much time praying for our children and ourselves as parents and doing our very best to instruct them in the ways of the Lord. Yet even still, parenting presents many challenges that may leave us feeling alone, frustrated, hurt, or confused. However, the Lord is saying to us just like I say to my son, “I am at work.”

This thought of God being at work is much like the planting of a seed. When we plant a seed in the soil, we don’t come back an hour later or even the next day expecting to see a bloom; we know that it takes time—there is a process. I believe God would remind us as parents that the seeds of Christ that we plant within the hearts of our children through our day-to-day parenting too take time to bloom. When a seed is placed into the ground, we can’t see the process of what is taking place underground that causes that bloom or sprout to come forth. This is the same with parenting; we place the seeds and though we are daily “watering” our children with the Word and the love of God, we often can’t see what is taking place on the inside. In fact, many times the outward appearance makes us believe that nothing is happening at all. However, Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us that God makes everything beautiful in its time and He promises to perfect those things that concern us (Psalm 138:8).

If you are anything like me, a person who likes structure, order, and to be kept in the loop of things, this whole idea of not being able to see the process in our children and waiting to see the fruit of our labor can be quite challenging. Being a parent can really challenge the faith and trust that we have in God. But no matter what, we must remember that despite how much we love our children, His love for them is greater and because of that we can trust that He is at work in their lives. I have found such sweetness in those moments where you see a “bloom” in your child—when they say or do something that you have been praying and working so hard for them to understand.

Another thing that I have found in my moments of frustration or weariness is that while I am so focused on what is going on with my children, I am at times neglecting to notice and yield to the work He is doing in me. How about love, longsuffering, self-control, gentleness? Could perhaps the Father be at work in us too while we are wishing He would speed up the work He is doing in our children? Ha! So, if you are weary or frustrated in your parenting right now, know that you are not alone, we all go through those moments. But more importantly, be confident in knowing that your Father is indeed AT WORK

Wife, praise maker, cinnamon roll baker, and super mommy of 4.

Hello everyone! My name is Nikevia Lebron and I am a wife, mother, and minister. Thinking back to early childhood I used to tell my mom that I couldn’t wait to grow up and be a grandmother. She’d laugh and say, “You have to be a mother first,” but in my mind my grandmother was the best! She had lots of grandchildren and that’s what I wanted—to have lots of children around me and to love on them, just like my grandmother. As I grew older and began to think about my life and career journey, all I ever could pinpoint as a desire of my heart was to do ministry and be a wife and mother. So here I am on this journey of parenthood just like the rest of you. I pray that you are blessed by what Holy Spirit shares and reveals to me in my daily walk of life as a parent. Love and goldfish crackers, Nikevia
